Launch of the Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project in Oyo and Taraba States

The Governor of Taraba State, Danbaba Suntai and the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo launched the Urban Water and Sanitation Improvement Project – with an African Development Bank loan of approximately US $100 million for the rehabilitation, expansion and construction of water and sanitation facilities in Jalingo, Taraba State, and Ibadan, a city located in Oyo State, Nigeria. The project will improve access to clean water and sanitation for an estimated 1.5 million people.

New drinking water system for La Paz, Bolivia

Royal HaskoningDHV and water operator Vitens Evides International (VEI) are advising the Bolivian water company EPSAS on the development of the Chuquiaguillo drinking water project. The project will supply drinking water to approximately 125,000 inhabitants of the Bolivian capital La Paz. It will be the first time that some of them have been connected to the city's drinking water mains.

The project hopes to make a significant contribution to integrated water resources management in Africa. A consortium led by GeoVille and GRAS, a DHI subsidiary company, has been selected to carry out the project.

Herrenknecht AG is supplying a tunnel boring machine with a diameter of 11.46 meters for the construction of the new metro line 4 in Rio de Janeiro. It will contribute to relieving the traffic routes in the metropolitan area. At the company’s headquarters in southern German Schwanau the first tunnel boring machine to be used in Rio de Janeiro was accepted by the customer in late September 2012.

India: Mechanized Tunnelling for Better Infrastructure

On the Indian subcontinent there is a great need to improve the infrastructure in the areas of transport and supply. In the rapidly growing large cities, Herrenknecht technology is heavily involved in the expansion of both the water supply and the metro systems. This year an Indian record of 525 meters of drilled and secured tunnel in one month was achieved in the Veligonda water project (state of Andhra Pradesh) with a Herrenknecht Double Shield TBM (diameter 7,900 mm).
